The 2012 John Lennon Songwriting Contest Session I

Music Contest Info:

To enter The John Lennon Songwriting Contest you need to submit a 5 minute or less song along with a lyric sheet (if your song has lyrics). The categories are: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk, and Children's. Instrumental compositions are encouraged. You song doesn't need to have been professionally recorded as entries are being judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics.

Prize:

The song of the year (split over the two sessions) will win a $20,000 check, an Avid prize pack, a Mackie mixer and a pair of Mackie Studio Monitors plus a $1,000 scholarship to Digital Media Academy. The 12 Lennon award winners receive $1000 in Mackie and Ampeg Products. The 24 grand prize winners receive a 6,500 in Project Studio Equipment from Avid, Roland and Boss, Audio-Technica, Gibson Guitars and Epiphone, and Propellerhead. Neutrik special edition John Lennon Educational Tour Bus connectors and cable and a one year subscription to Guitar Player, Bass Player, Keyboard, or EQ Magazine.

Rules:

There is an entry fee of $30.00 per song. Songs may not exceed five minutes in length. Open to amateur and professional songwriters.

Show Me the Music 2012 Songwriting Contest

Music Contest Info:

Show Me the Music songwriting contest is back for 2012 and you can enter submit your songs online or through the mail, the entry details are on this page. Songs will be judged on melody, song structure, originality, and lyrics and will not be judged on production quality or vocals. Here is the video for the 2011 winning song.

Prize:

There are two prize packages which you can choose from. Package A is $10,000 USD, Broadjam Primo Mob Membership, featured spot on Show Me the Music website, 500 fully packaged CDs of the winning song by Copycats Media, Show Me the Music T-shirt and certificate. Package B is $3,000 USD to use towards airfare, hotel and spending money for full day recording session at the Castle Recording Studio in Franklin, TN. Nashville "A" list studio musicians to record the winning song, fully mixed and mastered CD of the winning song, mentor session and more.

Rules:

Contest has an entry fee of $30 for the first song or $20 for additional songs after the first.. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Entrants retain all ownership rights to every song submitted. Open to all amateur and professional songwriters.

The Yamaha 6 String Theory Guitar Competition

Music Contest Info:

To enter you have to upload two YouTube videos which are no longer than 5 minutes long showing you "playing with your band, a solo arrangement, duet performance, or any other performance that showcases your skills as a guitarist." There are 6 categories which are Rock, Blues, Jazz/Fusion, Country, Acoustic and Classical/Flamenco. 36 semi-finalists will be chosen (6 in each category).who will all be awarded a full scholarship to attend and compete in a National Guitar Workshop in Summer 2012.

Prize:

The grand prize winning musician will win a Yamaha guitar (acoustic, classical, or electric), a guitar endorsement from Yamaha Guitars, $1,000 worth of gear from D'Addario String Company and/or Planet Waves accessories, a Monster endorsement plus Monster "Beats by Dre" Headphones, featured artist slot in the 2013 National Guitar Workshop Clinic Tour, a seven day vacation stay at the Flathead Lake Lodge (up to 2 persons total) in Bigfork, Montana and a possible recording contract opportunity from Concord Records. there are also prizes for the 1st to 5th place runner up.

Rules:

Semi finalists have to travel to either Connecticut or Texas for the semifinals (travel not included). Must be aged 16 years or older at time of entry. An entrant may not be a professional guitarist and may not be signed to any labels or management. Concord shall have the exclusive right (but not the obligation) for a period of 6 months to enter into an exclusive recording agreement with any of the six finalists.

17th Annual USA Songwriting Competition

Music Contest Info:

To enter submit your song of 5 minutes or less in length along with a completed entry form, lyric sheet and entry fee.

Prize:

The grand prize winner receives $50,000 USD worth of cash, merchandise and services. 2nd place wins $9,000 worth of merchandise and 3rd place wins $6,500 worth of merchandise. For each of the 15 categories the 1st placed winner will receive $2,200 worth of merchandise and 20 honorable mention winners will each receive $350 worth of merchandise.

Rules:

Entry costs $35 per song. All songs submitted must be original. Open to amateur and professional songwriters regardless of nationality or origin.

2012 American Sound Song Contest

Unsigned Only Music Competition

Music Contest Info:

A new contest by the same people who run the International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Unsigned artists can enter their songs into the contest either online or by mail. There are specific categories to enter which are AAA, Adult Contemporary (AC), Christian, Country, Folk/Singer-Songwriter, Pop/Top 40, R&B/Hip-Hop, Rock, and Vocal Performance.

Prize:

The grand prize winner gets $5,000 US dollars, a one-on-one mentoring from a group of record label executives and more prizes to be announced soon. The prizes for the 1st and 2nd place winners in each category are also to be announced soon.

Rules:

Each song requires and entry fee of $30 (US) be paid. Unsigned Only is open to all artists who are not signed to a major label record company and/or its affiliates or subsidiaries. Entrant retains all ownership rights to all submitted song(s).

Live & Unsigned 2012 UK Music Competition

Music Contest Info:

Sign up for one of the many auditions going on around the UK which start in early January 2012 going through to early March 2012. Open to all genres and on the day will be asked to perform a track of no longer than 2 minutes. I am unsure of closing date so have put the last audition date as the closing date above.

Prize:

Up to £100,000 in prizes up for grabs and a comprehensive winners’ package which includes; recording studio time, Blackstar and TC Electronic Amps, Music development classes and the main prize which includes £10,000 cash to spend as you wish for the development of your act.

Rules:

£5.00 for solo artists and duos, £10.00 for groups. You must be resident in the UK. If you are under 18 years old you must inform your parent or legal guardian of your entry. You agree to give Future Music Management first refusal to Management.

We Are Listening $5000 Songwriter Contest

Music Contest Info:

This songwriting contest has 5 categories which are: Singer/Songwriter, Country/Folk, Pop, Rock and Lyrics Only. A free contest score card will be prepared and sent via email to all participants. There are five music industry judges.

Prize:

There are 5 categories each with a prize of $1000.

Rules:

There is an entry fee of $5 per song. You may submit multiple songs and lyrics into the contest. Lyrics must be in English. No instrumentals.
