The 2012 John Lennon Songwriting Contest Session I

Music Contest Info:

To enter The John Lennon Songwriting Contest you need to submit a 5 minute or less song along with a lyric sheet (if your song has lyrics). The categories are: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk, and Children's. Instrumental compositions are encouraged. You song doesn't need to have been professionally recorded as entries are being judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics.

Prize:

The song of the year (split over the two sessions) will win a $20,000 check, an Avid prize pack, a Mackie mixer and a pair of Mackie Studio Monitors plus a $1,000 scholarship to Digital Media Academy. The 12 Lennon award winners receive $1000 in Mackie and Ampeg Products. The 24 grand prize winners receive a 6,500 in Project Studio Equipment from Avid, Roland and Boss, Audio-Technica, Gibson Guitars and Epiphone, and Propellerhead. Neutrik special edition John Lennon Educational Tour Bus connectors and cable and a one year subscription to Guitar Player, Bass Player, Keyboard, or EQ Magazine.

Rules:

There is an entry fee of $30.00 per song. Songs may not exceed five minutes in length. Open to amateur and professional songwriters.

Sonoma Wire Works Riffrumble 18 Song Contest

Music Contest Info:

Submit original songs which have the theme and your interpretion of "Love" using RiffWorks Standard v2.6.7, RiffWorks T4 v2.6.7, or FourTrack to record your entry. Riffwork T4 can be downloaded for free from here. Complete entries need to be sent to Riffworld using the Riffcast ability of the software making sure you include the tag name riffrumble18.

Prize:

The 1st prize winner as chosen by Lorenz Rychner (Editor of Recording Magazine) receives a Taylor GS Mini Guitar, Taylor ES-Go Pick Up, 1 year subscription to Recording Magazine 1 Year Subscription, "Recording the Electric Guitar" by Jon Bare, Recording Coffee Mug, GuitarJack iOS Interface, CableJive dockXtender Dock Extender Cable and your choice of $1000 worth of Sonoma software. There are also prizes for 2nd place as chosen by contestants and 3rd place as chosen by the public.

Rules:

You can use any third party applications, however you must use RiffWorks T4 (free), RiffWorks Standard or the FourTrack iPhone app to record the entry. You have to be prepared to submit a .rws file as proof that Riffworks was used to record. Entrants must be over 13 years of age.

Shure Songwriting Award 2012

Music Contest Info:

To enter this Songwriting Award by Shure and BMI you have to upload a video of yourself performing an original song live. This should be an entire performance that is one continuous and static shot. You must accompany yourself as no band, backing tracks or commercial videos will be eligible.

Prize:

Opportunity to professionally develop your talent and skills including the opportunity to perform in live showcase events in London by receiving a place on a one-year Cert HE in Songwriting course delivered in London, UK commencing in October 2012 and worth over £5000. One runner up receives the opportunity to attend the same course at a heavily discounted price.

Rules:

Must be aged 17+ by August 1st 2012. One application per person. Entries must be in English.

Hello Music Songwriter Competition

Indaba Music and Hello Music have teamed up to run a songwriters contest where you can win $2,000 worth of recording gear. Guitar Center: Your Next Record with T-Pain & Young Fyre

To enter this opportunity you need to register on Whooznxt and then submit a video that is no longer than 7 minutes in length. Your video should be of a performance of an original track which has been written by the entrant. This track must fall within the Rap, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul or R&B genres. You'll also need to grow your fan base throughout the duration of the contest as the judging panel will be paying extra attention.

Prize:

The winner gets a 3 song EP produced by Young Fyre (Producer of T-Pain's rEVOLVEr album who has worked with Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Mario, Busta Rhymes, Ace Hood and Travie McCoy). Show Me the Music 2012 Songwriting Contest

Music Contest Info:

Show Me the Music songwriting contest is back for 2012 and you can enter submit your songs online or through the mail, the entry details are on this page. Songs will be judged on melody, song structure, originality, and lyrics and will not be judged on production quality or vocals. Here is the video for the 2011 winning song.

Prize:

There are two prize packages which you can choose from. Package A is $10,000 USD, Broadjam Primo Mob Membership, featured spot on Show Me the Music website, 500 fully packaged CDs of the winning song by Copycats Media, Show Me the Music T-shirt and certificate. Package B is $3,000 USD to use towards airfare, hotel and spending money for full day recording session at the Castle Recording Studio in Franklin, TN. Nashville "A" list studio musicians to record the winning song, fully mixed and mastered CD of the winning song, mentor session and more.

Rules:

Songs should be original and "reflect the core values and themes of The Rainbow Pals" which are Everyone is Different and Special, Cherish Family and Friends, Love the Environment, Laughter Nourishes the Soul and Happiness is Within. Green For All - The Dream Reborn 2012 Music Contest

Music Contest Info:

To enter you have to submit a song about economic justice and green solutions. It also states that you should "Use your voice to honor the legacy and call to service of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.". Your song should be no longer than 5 minutes in length. Completed songs should be uploaded to SoundCloud and then the URL submitted on the contest page.

Prize:

1st place wins a monetary prize of US $1,000 on a Visa Gift Card and a music video. 2nd place gets $500 and 3rd place gets $250.

Rules:
