Indaba Music: Weekly Brief February 15, 2012

Music Contest Info:

This week's Indaba Music Weekly Brief they want you to use the provided Saxophone improvisations recorded by Timo and incorporate them into a new, original piece of music. Your music can be in any style or genre. The Saxophone recordings were recorded at 100 BPM. Completed tracks should be submitted to Indaba Music.

Prize:

Up to 10 selected Indaba Music users chosen by the judges will receive $50 cash and be eligible for licensing to third-party clients through the Indaba Music Licensing Catalog

Rules:

Open to individuals who over the age of 13. Submission must be your own work and not previously been published. No more than 3 submissions per entrant. The entrant shall own the copyright to their submission. To enter you need to be registered member on Indaba Music. A free member gets to enter 3 locked opportunities per year for free unless they purchase a Pro membership on Indaba allowing them to enter unlimited opportunities.

Soniccouture Crowd-Choir Project

Music Contest Info:

Soniccouture are building a unique sampler instrument using choir/vocal sounds from all around the world and they need a minimum of 2000 vocal notes to build it. This is where you can come in because if you record a sample of you singing "Aahhh" and submit it to them then you can stand a chance of winning the Mbira and also everyone that enters receives a copy of the instrument for free. There is a guide pitch on the page to help you hit the right note and form to upload your vocal sample.

Prize:

One participant chosen at random will receive the custom-made, 5 octave cherry-wood mbira plus everybody that sends Soniccouture a recorded note will receive the CrowdChoir instrument free, in Kontakt /EXS & Ableton Live format.

Rules:

The Mbira will be shipped free of charge to the winner. Files must be either WAV, AIFF or MP3 format. Individual Files must be under 10MB.

Sonoma Wire Works Riffrumble 18 Song Contest

Submit original songs which have the theme and your interpretion of "Love" using RiffWorks Standard v2.6.7, RiffWorks T4 v2.6.7, or FourTrack to record your entry. Riffwork T4 can be downloaded for free from here. Complete entries need to be sent to Riffworld using the Riffcast ability of the software making sure you include the tag name riffrumble18.

Prize:

The 1st prize winner as chosen by Lorenz Rychner (Editor of Recording Magazine) receives a Taylor GS Mini Guitar, Taylor ES-Go Pick Up, 1 year subscription to Recording Magazine 1 Year Subscription, "Recording the Electric Guitar" by Jon Bare, Recording Coffee Mug, GuitarJack iOS Interface, CableJive dockXtender Dock Extender Cable and your choice of $1000 worth of Sonoma software. Rules:

You can use any third party applications, however you must use RiffWorks T4 (free), RiffWorks Standard or the FourTrack iPhone app to record the entry. You have to be prepared to submit a .rws file as proof that Riffworks was used to record. Entrants must be over 13 years of age.

Hit Like A Girl: Drumming Contest

Female drummers can enter a video and short bio into this contest to enter. The video can be in any drumming style, solo performance or with a band, but only the first 3 minutes of the video will be judged. Videos need to be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and then submitted to the contest.

Prize:

Guitar Center: Your Next Record with T-Pain & Young Fyre

To enter this opportunity you need to register on Whooznxt and then submit a video that is no longer than 7 minutes in length. Your video should be of a performance of an original track which has been written by the entrant. This track must fall within the Rap, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul or R&B genres. You'll also need to grow your fan base throughout the duration of the contest as the judging panel will be paying extra attention.

Prize:

Rock The House 2012 Music Contest

Music Contest Info:

To enter you have to download the application form, fill it in and then send it off to your MP along with an MP3 of one of your original compositions. There are 3 categories for solo-artists, bands over 18 and under-18 entrants. Each MP then has to announce by April 30th which act will be representing their constituency. A panel of international music industry experts and musicians will determine the finalists who will compete in a live battle of the bands on Wednesday 30th May.

Prize:

Chance to appear live at a live Battle of The Bands final in front of industry leaders including a special panel for the under 18's at the Yamaha headquarters, on the terrace of the House of Commons, Download festival and others depending on your music genre, The Legendary Bedford Pub in Balham and more to be added soon. Also up for grabs are top end guitars, sound and lighting masterclasses, professional music/sound/lighting equipment and more.

Rules:

UN IYC 2012 Co-op Arts Competition

Music Contest Info:

This contest has a music, photography and video category and are looking for entries that "that promote the principles of co-operation in a way attractive to young people to raise their awareness about the co-operative movement worldwide." For the music category your entry can be with or without words and must be a length of no less than two and no more than three minutes. Entries should be submitted using this online form.

Prize:

1st prize in each category gets $3,000 USD and a trip to Manchester, UK in November 2012. 2nd place in each category gets $1,500 USD and 3rd place gets a tablet personal computer.

Rules:

Entrants must be between the ages of 16 and 35. Each participant can only submit one project in each category. By submitting a soundtrack, participants will immediately and automatically transfer all intellectual property rights of it to ICA. The full terms can be read here.

Rio + 20 Global Youth Music Contest

Music Contest Info:

To enter you need to embed a link of a video that you have uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo showing you performing songs. The content of your songs need to relate to one or more of the seven critical issues (Jobs, Energy, Cities, Food, Water, Oceans and Disasters) and/or the two focus themes of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Green Economy, Poverty Eradication). Prize:

The winners will travel to and perform at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (The Rio+20 Earth Summit) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 20 to 22 June 2012. Travel and accommodation at the Rio+20 Earth Summit will be covered by the IAAI.

Rules:

Open to both Children below the age of 15 and Youth from the age of 15 to 30 from all countries around the world. Your musical performances will need to be of your own origin, traditionals or you must own the rights to the songs you perform.
